HONIARA, Solomon Islands — The Solomon Islands Immigration Division, in partnership with key national stakeholders and regional partners, successfully concluded a two-day e-Passport Self-Assessment Solomon Islands Workshop held on 30–31 October 2025 at the Heritage Park Hotel in Honiara.
The workshop, supported by the Papua New Guinea Immigration and Citizenship Authority (PNG ICSA), aimed to conduct a comprehensive self-assessment of the Solomon Islands’ e-Passport system to identify existing gaps and areas for improvement.
Participants reviewed critical thematic areas, including passport issuance processes, security mechanisms, and international cooperation frameworks.
The assessment recommended a reform and upgrade of the existing e-Passport and biometric systems to align with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards and global best practices.
The Solomon Islands Government is committed to prioritising the reform of the national passport system, including the development of new e-Passport legislation. These reforms are essential to strengthen national and international security, safeguard against global terrorist financing, and enhance the integrity and security features of travel documents.
The findings of the self-assessment will inform the government’s next steps toward modernising the e-Passport infrastructure, systems, equipment, and legislative framework.
