Business and Cooperatives Development Division

Welcome to the official page of the Business and Cooperatives Development Division.

As Director, I am pleased to share our vision and commitment to delivering our mandated roles—ensuring the consistent provision of high-quality business services and products that reflect not only excellence and innovation, but also creativity.

Our Division strives to achieve these goals through strong communication and collaboration with relevant stakeholders and partners, as we work together to address both existing and emerging challenges facing businesses and cooperatives in the Solomon Islands.

Our Core Functions

  • Training and Development Program (T&DP)

  • Research and Development (R&D) in urban centres, provinces, and constituencies

  • Promotion and Establishment of Business Associations

  • Cooperative Societies Promotion and Development across the Solomon Islands

We are also committed to supporting and working closely with stakeholders, including NGOs and civil society organisations, to foster a business and cooperative environment that is sustainable, inclusive, and responsive.

We recognise that achieving this vision requires not only strong partnerships, but also the development and retention of quality human resource capacity to effectively deliver services to our people.

To be a leading provider of business services recognized for excellence, innovation, creativity, and effective communication in addressing both existing and emerging economic challenges facing the Solomon Islands.

 

Our mission is to provide the people of the Solomon Islands with high-quality development services, including Research & Development (R&D), Training & Development (T&D), promotion and establishment of associations, and ongoing review of the Cooperative Movement nationwide. At the same time, we are committed to strengthening community connections to enhance service delivery.

We also empower our employees through skills transfer, professional development, and the adoption of the latest technologies to drive the economic advancement of the Solomon Islands.

  • Establishment of SME Hubs, Economic Growth Centre and Provincial Business Federations, Provincial Chamber of Commerce, and National Solomon Islands Business Council.
  • Conducting of Rural Financial Literacy Training for new & existing small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Constituencies.
  • Support existing and new SMEs with accessing finance, Capacity building through advisory institutions.
  • Conduct follow-up visits, mentoring and advice to business in constituencies.
  • Support and advisory services for Cooperative Societies
  • Auditing of Cooperative Societies
  • Set up Economic Growth Centers.

Stay Connected

    The Business and Cooperatives Development Division (BCD Division) is responsible for supporting the development and promoting the sustainable growth of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), business associations, and cooperative societies across the Solomon Islands.

    The Division fulfils this role through a range of services, including skills transfer via training programs, financial advisory support on funding options, and market research and development initiatives.

    The Division is responsible for establishing local business associations registering cooperative societies and is involved in the promotion of these entities and groups.

    Our Structure

    The Business and Cooperatives Development Division is headed by a Director who oversees the overall management and administration of the Division. He is supported by a Deputy Director and the Registrar of Cooperative Societies.
