1. Application For Workpermit
All non-citizens of Solomon Islands other than Government Employees, diplomatic staff, Commonwealth government employees and children under 18 years are required by Law to apply for work permit in Solomon Islands.
2. Work Permit Requirements
Work permit applications require a completed Form 1 and payment of the application fee. Foreign investors must submit identification documents, investment registration certificates, and proof of legal representation if applicable. Foreign workers must provide employment contracts, qualifications, reference letters, and supporting documents such as company registration, organizational charts, and localization programs. Renewal applications require the completed form, fee receipt, the original work permit, and, for workers, a report on compliance with the original permit conditions.
3. Current Work Permit Fees
Please ensure that the prescribed fees are duly verified and paid.
4. Stages in making Application
Work permit applications must be submitted on Form 1 with the required fee and full supporting documents. Applicants should normally be outside Solomon Islands, except in cases of renewal, spousal applications, or exempted transfers. Each application must demonstrate that no qualified local workers are available and that the proposed worker is suitably qualified, with all evidence submitted to the Commissioner of Labour.
5. Processing of Application
To obtain a work permit, applicants must submit their application along with the required fees to the Commissioner of Labour for assessment.
6. Decisions
An approval in principle will be issued to the applicant, or a letter of rejection will be provided, informing the applicant of their right of appeal to the Minister responsible for Labour under the Law.
