PNG Congratulates Solomon Islands on Successful Border Management System Launch
HONIARA, Solomon Islands — The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Immigration and Border Security of Papua New Guinea, Hon. John Rosso, has extended his congratulations to the Solomon Islands Immigration Division on the successful launch of the nation’s new Border Management System (BMS).
Officials from the Papua New Guinea Immigration and Citizenship Service Authority (PNG ICSA), the Australian Department of Home Affairs, and the Solomon Islands Government gathered in Honiara on 28 October 2025 to celebrate this significant milestone in regional border modernisation.
The digital BMS was developed through close collaboration among PNG ICSA, the Australian Government, and the Solomon Islands Immigration Division, under a trilateral partnership focused on capacity building and strengthening border security across the Pacific.
“On behalf of the Government of Papua New Guinea and the Ministry for Immigration and Border Security, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Solomon Islands Immigration Division and the Solomon Islands Government on the successful launch of its new BMS,” Hon. Rosso said in a statement.
He commended the initiative as a major step forward in strengthening border security, enhancing immigration services, and promoting regional cooperation.
“The implementation of a modern, integrated BMS reflects the Solomon Islands’ strong commitment to safeguarding its borders while enabling safe and efficient travel and trade. As neighbouring nations with shared values and aspirations, Papua New Guinea recognises the importance of digital transformation in border management,” he added.
Hon. Rosso emphasised that the BMS will not only improve operational efficiency and integrity but will also contribute to regional efforts to combat transnational crime and ensure the safety of Pacific citizens.
“We look forward to continued collaboration with the Solomon Islands and other Pacific partners in building resilient and secure border systems,” he concluded.
The Papua New Guinea Immigration and Citizenship Service Authority, together with the Australian Government, has supported the Solomon Islands Immigration Division since 2024 in the procurement and implementation of the new BMS — marking a shared commitment to advancing border technology and regional security cooperation.
