Growing role of e-commerce in Solomon islands.

EIU and SICCI Partner to Boost SME Growth Through E-Commerce
Honiara, 1 September 2025
The E-Commerce Implementation Unit (EIU) today held an information session with Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) members at Heritage Park Hotel, highlighting the growing role of e-commerce and digital trade in boosting SME growth.
Led by EIU Director Mr. Richard Nokia, the session introduced the National E-Commerce Strategy (NECS), launched in 2023 to create a stronger policy and business environment for digital trade. The strategy aims to help local businesses increase competitiveness, expand markets, and tap into new opportunities through online platforms.
Mr. Nokia underscored that digital adoption is “no longer optional” for businesses, pointing to shifting consumer behavior and rapid technological change. He also shared the Future-Ready 5D Marketing Model, offering SMEs practical steps to build their online presence — from setting up Google Business profiles to using social media and simple websites.
“E-commerce allows even the smallest enterprises to reach beyond Honiara, connect with customers, and compete globally,” Mr. Nokia said.
The EIU reaffirmed its commitment to supporting SMEs through training, awareness programs, and collaboration with SICCI to ensure Solomon Islands businesses are ready for the digital future.
